At 4.6 inches long, and 3.5 ounces, baby is really growing fast! This week, due to bones forming in the ear, baby can now hear my voice and heart beat... oh, that thought makes me smile! Hair, eyelashes and eye brows are filling in, and baby is forming taste buds... oh, good, the baby will be addicted to berry colossal crunch before it's even born... haha. Well, that and artichoke hearts... such a balanced diet.
I have continued to feel sporadic kicks and punches, but only 1-2 times a week. I can't wait until they're strong enough for Jon to feel. (He can't, either.)
I have been feeling SO pregnant. My stomach feels like it's really gotten big this last week or so, and I find myself moving more like a pregnant lady, trying to accommodate it. Jon has noticed it more, too. I have been getting out of breath so quickly with the organs moving up and into my lungs, and Sea Biscuit wishes he could pee as much as I do.
Apparently, being pregnant has affected my ability to type and spell. I have had to backspace and right-click to check the spelling so many times since I started this post... and I don't even have hard-for-me-to-spell words in it.
I am SO EXHAUSTED still. It doesn't help that I've started work again, so some days I'm up at 6 am. I try to be in bed by 9 or 9:30 those nights--a couple times I was even asleep before that. I have just felt like a zombie (I think). My eyes are tired and feel like they're going to fall out of my head and all this stuff. It's hard to function with 3 kids when you're exhausted. I don't know how moms of children handle it all the time.
My dreams have been getting more and more vivid--and sometimes disturbing. Not really enjoying that side effect right now.
I have dreamed a couple times about the gender of the baby, but I've had dreams of having both a boy and a girl, so I'm still not leaning toward one gender or the other.
I had a prenatal appointment this morning, and we got to hear baby's heartbeat... it was going strong at around 150 bpm, which was awesome and fun to hear. I wish Jon had come with me, but he didn't feel he could take the time off work, since last week he was late a couple of days, due to the weather. Maybe next time he can come with.
We met with a doula last night--I'm so glad we did, and I think we're going to go ahead and have her attend the birth. She also gave me the name of a midwife in the area that does home births, so I'm going to call her and see what she charges... but we're not sure we'll be able to afford that, since the hospital birth is free and all with our insurance. But the doula gave us lots of good info, and I really enjoyed meeting her.
It feels so weird being 16 weeks already. I remember when I was like, 6 weeks, how far away the second trimester--let alone the birth--seemed, and now it feels like it's right around the corner. We have so much to do before the baby comes. I know we still have lots of time--I'm not even halfway there yet-- but it's still going quickly.
I REALLY need some maternity clothes... where was your favorite place to get clothes? I'm fine with used if they're in good condition and from this millennium. We're trying to save money, so I'm not going to spend 50 bucks on a pair of pants... but let me know what worked for you and what you used/didn't like!

Pregnant After IUI: Week 15
Okay, quick post this week, because it's already after 9 and I need to go to bed soon so I can get up in time for work tomorrow.
Baby is about the length of an orange, or right around 4 inches long (crown to rump) and weighs 2.5 ounces. Getting so big! It seems like this week is mostly growth. Not a whole lot that's new going on with the babe.
I've been exhausted. Absolutely exhausted. It doesn't help that I started back at work this last week, so I'm up really early and chasing 3 kids all day. Thankfully, I only work part time, which means the days I DO work are long, but I have 2-3 days off during each week (and then the weekends, too) so I'm able to catch up on rest a bit on my days off. I'm also still getting nosebleeds.
Other symptoms have tapered off; smell is still strong, but doesn't make me nauseous. I haven't actually been nauseous in a while. Still not gaining weight, but I'm sure that will change, as food is starting to taste better, too.
Oh, one thing I've noticed, with several causes: I wake up frequently. Sometimes it's to pee, but more often it's because my hips hurt. Like, the muscles feel bruised. I think it's just ligaments stretching, but it can get quite painful. Another reason I wake up is because my pillow makes my head hurt. Let me see if I can explain this... There is a horizontal line above my ear (on both sides of my head) that, when lying on either side, gets pressure on it and hurts. Ears, too, are sensitive like that. I am not entirely sure what it is, but if I had to guess, I would say there are arteries or veins that go through there, and due to the increased blood volume and dilation of the blood vessels, the pressure of my pillow compresses them enough to cause a headache. I'm not sure what to do about it. It hurts just lying on my sides, but I've read you're not supposed to spend much time on your back, as the weight of the uterus can compress some blood vessels and cause low circulation to your lower body, and even to the baby. And sleeping on my stomach just isn't comfortable any more. So, right now when I wake up from that, I just roll over, but I end up waking again relatively quickly because it hurts. So, to sum it all up, I haven't been sleeping all that well, which I'm sure contributes to my fatigue.
Any ides or suggestions on how to prevent/deal with the pain I've been feeling at night would be great. Maybe just a softer pillow would be enough.
Anyway, it's late now, and I'm off to bed. Goodnight.

Pregnant After IUI: Week 14
I'm in the second trimester!! Woohoo!! So excited. =]
This week baby is about the size of a lemon, or almost 3 1/2 inches long. Baby DOUBLED in weight this week and is 1.5 ounces. (I guess last week they were just all kinds of messed up. All the sources I've looked at seem to say baby is still pretty light.) Baby is probably sucking their thumb, and can wiggle fingers and toes. Also, kidneys are functioning and baby can pee! Seems like peeing is all I do... The liver and spleen are working, and baby is growing lanugo, or body hair... all over. This will likely be gone by the time baby is born (if full term).
This week I am... tired. And my head has been hurting a lot--in the evenings, especially. I actually caved and bought some Tylenol to try to help, because it was getting so bothersome.
I noticed today I've got some slight tenderness in my armpits and breasts, which I haven't had for a while. It's not bad, though.
My nose is runny. All. The. Time. I have to blow it like every 10 minutes. The awesome part is that this is causing lots--and I mean A LOT--of bloody noses. This is common in pregnancy, and no cause for concern... but it is REALLY annoying.
I think that's about it. I'm looking into finding a doula, and next week we get to tour the birthing center at Mayo Clinic. I'm really excited to get started on the nursery and to finish the baby registry... and then buy (or be given) everything that's on it =] haha.
Huzzah for the second trimester!!

Pregnant After IUI: Week 13
Who here loves peaches? I know Jon is quite fond of them (as shown by his nightly glass of peach tea, with a shot of peach Schnapps in it, ha). Peaches are my favorite right now, too, since my baby is about as big as one! Almost 3 inches long! Unfortunately, I have NO IDEA how much the baby weighs, because on the VERY SAME PAGE of thebump.com it says in one place that the baby weighs .81 oz (that's point-eight-one) ounces, but in a video embedded in the page it says baby is about half a pound. So, yeah. Inconsistent. But we'll go with half a pound, because that sounds better. Baby's vocal cords and teeth are forming, and the intestines are moving from the placenta into the baby's belly. Who knew the intestines formed in the placenta first?! So weird! And, just about the coolest thing I've ever heard: My baby, at 13 weeks gestation, already has FINGERPRINTS.
Kinda like Juno being told the baby has fingernails was a huge deal to her, the fact that my baby has fingerprints is just incredible; already a unique person with an identity... Remarkable.
One more week until the second trimester! I can't wait to have more energy and feel better... also, I'm ready for food to start tasting good again. Although, this carrot-with-Italian-dressing that I'm munching on right now is pretty delectable.
The only new symptom that I can think of is that I MIGHT have felt the baby moving a couple times... it's hard to say for sure. A couple times it felt like gas, but where I imagine my baby to be... and once I even felt like a hand or foot was pushing against my belly. That only happened once, and it was last night and super cool. I hope it was the baby! Feeling the baby moving is probably the one thing I've been looking forward to the most. =]
So most of you know that until like your third trimester you go see your doc every 4 weeks. Well, the ultrasound was my first appt, and Monday I had my second. If you need details of the visit, you can ask, but I'll skip over most of it, as it wasn't interesting. The INTERESTING part was that I GOT TO HEAR BABY'S HEARTBEAT FOR THE FIRSTIEST TIME EVER AND I STILL CAN'T STOP SMILING BECAUSE IT WAS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME AND THE BEST SOUND EVER. She used a doppler and let me record the audio on my phone, since Jon wasn't able to be there and I wanted him to hear it. I listen to it like every hour. I love it so much. Speaking of which... *goes to listen to it.* I texted it to my whole family and my mother-in-law... if anyone else has texting and wants to hear it, get me your number and I'll send it to you.
As for things gotten for baby this week: We went ahead and purchased a swing for Baby... used... from Savers... for 12 dollars before Jon's discount. HA! Love it!
Anything else...? I don't think so. I keep telling myself I'm going to take belly pics, but I haven't yet... I think I'll start with the second trimester. Maybe even post them for ya'll to see. =]
Oh, added note: Baby's hb was "150s-160s" according to the doc.

Pregnant After IUI: Week 12
This may be a short post; I'm not really in the mood to blog today...
Baby this week is about 2 inches long: Roughly the length of a plum. Baby's "critical systems are fully formed." Baby will soon be able to open and close hands and toes, if not doing so already. Baby's reflexes are even developing. Now we've reached the stage where baby gains more size, weight, and tissue development. Oh, Baby also looks less like an alien, since the eyes have moved from the sides of the head in toward where they're supposed to be.*
It's so cool learning all this stuff every week. It just blows my mind. Truly God does knit us together in the womb. What a beautiful thing that is.
I am ALMOST done with the first trimester! Apparently, week 12 is not the end, but week 13... so week 14 is the first in the second trimester. Ah,whatever.
This week has been decent. Yesterday I felt pretty rough all day, and today I'm tired, but otherwise it's been good. My body has started regulating the BO issue better. I'm still smelly in the morning, but it's not nearly as bad as it was last week. One of the newer symptoms I've noticed is mood swings. I'm pretty happy most of the time, sometimes I'm almost giddy... but other times, like when I bump my head or can't wake Jon up when the dog is whining, I get inexplicably, incredibly mad. Just like that *snaps fingers.* It really annoys me, actually, because I know there's no real reason for me to be so mad I want to scream and cry, but I just can't seem to help it.
Constipation... I've been eating prunes daily. Might be helping, but so far nothing major. I'm not super uncomfortable all the time, though.
My weight is down 7 pounds since I got pregnant (no idea how) but my jeans don't fit any more. Well, the one pair that does (used to be huge on me!) has a giant hole in the crotch. So I'm going to have to get some maternity pants soon; boo, hiss.
We've slowly been accumulating baby gear. We've gotten a couple outfits from my sisters, I got a nursing pillow for cheap online (I had a coupon code, just pay shipping) that I'm not sure will work (it's pretty tiny), a used pack 'n' play from our church, and Jon came home today with a baby wrap carrier and a nursing cover. I can't wait to go shopping and buy lots of cute things. =] Thankfully, though, we haven't spent much on baby stuff so far.
Okay, not such a short post. I'm off to make some rice to go with our red beans tonight. Enjoy your dinners.

Pregnant After IUI: Week 11
Go to your grocery store tomorrow. Pick up an average-sized lime. That's how big my baby is already! Crazy, isn't it? Averaging 1.5 inches long, but still only about a quarter of an ounce in weight. (Okay... thinking about this... are limes REALLY only an inch and a half long? Maybe I haven't seen a lime since I was 5, but they seem bigger than that, in my head... hmmm.) The head is about the same size as the body at this point (could you imagine walking around with a 4-foot-long head? Yikes.) and the skin is sorta translucent... slightly creepy. But still amazing. Tooth buds are forming. Bone and cartilage are continuing to form. Baby keeps on growing! *
My newest symptom is so cute, you guys will flip. I wake up every. single. morning and smell pleasantly like so much BO it's awesome. (//sarcasm//) Guys, I've never really sweat much, and even when I did, applying deodorant once a day was sufficient to keep me smelling like daisies in springtime. But THIS. Oh, it's awful! I can't lift up my arms for fear I'll black out. Even after washing with soap (which I don't typically have to do!) I STILL SMELL. WHILE I'M STILL IN THE SHOWER. It's disgusting. I have to wash my pjs like every day or two. Thankfully, Jon's been sleeping downstairs (he's been sick, and can't breath in a fully reclined position) so he's been spared the pleasure of smelling such a pungent aroma. Hopefully applying more deodorant before bed will help... we'll see. Or, smell, rather.
Otherwise my symptoms are pretty much the same as before. I have good days with energy and motivation when stuff gets done, and I have bad days where I'm slightly nauseous all day, exhausted, and feel like anything other than reading is just too much work for one day. Still constipated. But over all I would say that I'm doing pretty well.
As I mentioned before, Jon got really sick last week with a nasty cold. Fortunately, with the help of my essential oils, I never even got a sore throat. Runny nose, yes, but I think that has more to do with being pregnant, since it's been going on for, oh, about 6-8 weeks, give or take. I'm just SO thankful I didn't get sick.
I think that's pretty much it. Yeah. kthanksbye

Pregnant After IUI: Week 10
Guys, guess what. I am one fourth (1/4, a quarter, .25, 25%, etc.) of the way DONE with this pregnancy already. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?!
As for baby:
At just over an inch long, baby is about the size of a prune, but is a lightweight at about 1/10 of an ounce. Get this: vital organs are completely formed and beginning to work! How amazing is that? At 10 weeks! SUCH a miracle! Fingernails and hair are beginning to form. Cartilage and bone are forming, and the "arm joints" (elbows and shoulders, I'm guessing) are already working. And, on top of all that, baby can swallow and kick. What a busy week for my little bear!*
As for me:
I have had a fairly busy week as well, as I'm finally starting to feel better. Like, even good some days. I still have bad days once in a while, and if I'm super busy one day, it'll take a day or two for the energy to come back. But at least things are getting done. I even made dinner the other night! Score! I haven't needed my daily nap, but I'm still sleeping 11-12 hours a night.
Meat has gained some of it's appeal back. Saturday night I went out to eat with most of the family and I got a cheeseburger: The first real meal I'd eaten with meat for weeks. I ate that whole burger. It tasted so good. Then on Sunday I wasn't feeling well, so I didn't eat much (if any) meat, but then Monday and Tuesday I ate some at dinner. It feels good getting the protein.
I've also kind of moved away from wanting the white, simple carbs (potatoes, bread, etc. [As I sit here typing this, I am eating pizza... but shhh. I had a fruit smoothie for breakfast.]). I mean, those still sound okay, but I also want more veggies and fruit. I even had enough energy the other day to get some pickles and fermented carrots going. I can't wait to dig in. So, my diet is rounding out much more than it has been of late.
Constipation has eased up a bit. And I do mean "a bit." But I'm way for comfortable than I was a couple weeks ago.
My nose is still super sensitive, chicken still gives me the heebie-jeebies, my gag reflex is super heightened these days (although still no vomiting), and Jon got a cold ... Sunday? ... and I still show no signs or symptoms of it (huzzah. Although that could just mean that it's getting a good hold in my body before it drags me down...).
I have lost a few pounds (I'm down like 5 lbs since I got pregnant) which is really surprising to me, since I haven't really been exercising, and I feel like I'm eating a TON and most of it is CRAP right now. But hey, I'll take it.
I'm sitting here, trying to think of other symptoms that have shown up or gone away... I do still get some nausea randomly, but it's not all the time anymore, nor as severe. I can't honestly think of anything else. Oh, yes I can. PREGNANCY BRAIN is starting. I can't even think of examples... I misspeak all the time, forget things, get confused... ugh. Haha. Sometimes it's pretty funny, though.
Okay, that's all I can think of to update on for now.
...geez, I never know how to end these things... uh, I guess... kbye.

Okay, that's all I can think of to update on for now.
...geez, I never know how to end these things... uh, I guess... kbye.
